Savik Shuster

The beginning of Savik’s journalistic career coincided with the Soviet Army invasion of Afghanistan in 1979. He worked for such publications as Newsweek, Der Spiegel, Liberation, La Republica and published his own material concerning events in Lebanon, Chad, Nicaragua. He left the Soviet Union as a 19-year-old second year student of the Medical Institute. In 1976 he graduated from McGill University in Montreal (Canada) moving on to work in Florence (Italy). Between 1988 and 2001 he worked at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and from 1996 to 2001 he was the Head of the Moscow Bureau.

Between 2001 - 2004 he was the presenter of the programs "Свобода слова"(Svodofa slova (Freedom of Speech), "Герой дня" (Geroi dnya (Hero of the day), "Влияние"(Vliyanie (Influence), "Третий тайм" (Tretiy taim (Third period) at НТВ (NTV) channel. In 2004 the program "Свобода слова" (Svodofa slova (Freedom of Speech) was awarded the national award of TV Academy of Russia "ТЭФИ"(TEFI). The same year he became Deputy Director General of Documentaries at НТВ  (NTV) channel.

Since May 2005 he has been the author and presenter of the talk show "Свобода слова" (Svodofa slova (Freedom of Speech) at ICTV channel, later to become the author and presenter of the program "Свобода Савика Шустера" (Svoboda Savika Shustera (Savik Shuster’s Freedom) at the TV channel "Интер" (Inter).
Production studio "Савик Шустер Студия" (Savik Shuster Studiya) was established in August 2008. TV channel “Украина “(Ukraine) has received a three year contract for the daily broadcasting of the author’s popular talk-show  "Шустер Live"  (Shuster Live).
